The Thinking Desk: Thinking is Messy…Make Space for It

The Thinking Desk is a flexible, student-centered workspace that supports how kids think, move, and learn. With a magnetic whiteboard surface and sit-to-stand design, it transforms any classroom into a hub of active, visible learning. The desk tilts 90° upright for easy turning, quick transitions, or space-saving storage—perfect for classrooms that thrive on movement and collaboration.

Inspired by Dr. Peter Liljedahl's Building Thinking Classrooms framework, The Thinking Desk was designed to support vertical, non-permanent surfaces (VNPS) and the student mobility and visibility of thinking that BTC promotes. It helps create an environment where learners take risks, share ideas, and engage in genuine problem-solving.

Key Features:

  • Sit-to-stand height for flexible, ergonomic learning
  • Writable, magnetic whiteboard surface for modeling and collaboration
  • 90° tilt-up for easy turning, transitions, and compact storage
  • Lightweight and movable for fast classroom reconfiguration
  • Durable, school-ready construction
  • Space-saving for crowded classrooms

Why Schools Love It:

The Thinking Desk qualifies for a wide range of education funding sources, including:

  • Flexible, innovative seating and active learning grants
  • STEM and STEAM innovation funds
  • ESSER and Title I allocations
  • Special education and inclusion supports
